We have four rooms in our house. But my favourite one is our study which is the biggest room. It is full of wonderful things: books, pictures, collections of coins, TV and a computer.

 There is a very old writing table in the study. My great granddad bought it in the beginning of the century when he was a student. It is very old, solid and comfortable. There is a sofa in the corner of the room and next to it a beautiful old standard lamp, which is on the carpet. There is a piano near the window. 

At night when it gets dark I like to turn off the light, turn on the standard lamp and play the piano. When the standard lamp is on, the study looks like a fairy-land. I often sit in the old armchair and dream of pleasant things. I love this room very much. 

However, my brother likes our living-room. He has got a very good stereo system there. He plays his music very loudly in this room. This room is not very comfortable. There is a fireplace in it, but nevertheless it’s a little cold in winter. There is also an armchair, a sofa and some shelves with compact discs and cassettes in them. My brother spends much time in this room.

My favourite subject is English. English is very important as it has become the most used language in politics, science, trade and cultural relations in the world. It is also the language of great literature. Such writers as William Shakespeare, Walter Scott, Charles Dickens and Bernard Shaw wrote in English. 

It gives me great pleasure to read their books in the original. I learn English at school. I also read English books, magazines and newspapers. I watch video films and listen to songs in English. I have a Walkman, so I often listen to songs or teaching cassettes when walking or in the underground. I write new words on little cards and look them through every evening before going to sleep. I hope that in the future I’ll speak English fluently!

Hobby is what a person likes to do in his spare time. Hobbies differ like tastes. If you have chosen a hobby according to your character and taste you are lucky because your life becomes more interesting. The most popular hobby is doing things. It includes a wide variety of activities from gardening to traveling, from chess to volleyball. Both grown-ups and children are fond of playing different computer games. This hobby is becoming more and more popular. Making things include drawing, painting, handicrafts. Many people collect something - coins, stamps, compact discs, toys, books. Some collections are pretty valuable. Rich people often collect paintings, rare things and other art objects. Often such private collections are gifted to museums, libraries.

Every young man wants to live independently. And I’m not an exception. Of course, the time will come, when I will alone in my flat. I wait for this moment and imagine, that my new flat will be at least three roomed. There will be a study, a bed-room, a dinning-room. Of course, there also will be a kitchen and a bathroom. The dinning- room will be a big comfortable room with a big table in the center. There also will be several armchairs, and a big TV set in it. In this room I shall receive guests. I also shall put a piano in one of the corners of the room and shall start taking piano lessons because I like this musical instrument very much.

The charms and pleasures of domestic life are known to everyone. Just go out to another town to see your relative, and there you will be secretly pining for your home, sweet home. You will remember the delightful evenings you passed around the fireside. It will be delightful to recall the scene of your father returning home after his day’s work, the children climbing on his knee; the mother preparing the evening meal and your sisters, talking of sweet innocent things; The kindly neighbors drop in helping to pass the evening hours merrily with their pleasant and cheerful conversation.

I live in (назва вулиці) Street. It is a very quiet street on the outskirts of our city.

Though it has not any special places of interest and not visited by tourists, I really like it. All houses are neat and well-planned here. Most of them have big gardens or just some flowerbeds.

It’s very green in spring and summer. There are a lot of trees in it. The side-walks are lined with lime-trees. There are also many fruit-trees and lilacs in the people’s gardens. In May the whole street turns into a blooming garden.

There isn’t much traffic in (назва вулиці). The air is fresh, it isn’t polluted with gases.

I like to come back to our street after a day spent in the centre of the city. I hate noise and crowds in downtown. I wouldn’t like to live in a different street.

I usually start my day with getting up and doing all things that everybody does in the morning: washing, having breakfast, etc. Also, I got used to gather my learning tools: pencils, exercise-books, text-books in the morning. Then I usually go to the university. Fortunately, father takes a car every morning and he often picks me up and drives me to the doors of our university building.And soon the lectures and lessons begin... We have from 2 to 4 lectures every time, depending on day. I like studying in the university more than in the school because in university it is mostly allowed to miss some lectures (of course, later you should take a summary from your mate and copy it). So, a student is much more free, than pupil is.

Hello, my name is (своє ім"я). I work as a manager at the "Star tour" company. It is Russian company which works in the business travel market. Two weeks ago I was sent by the administration of our company to London where I studied the English travel companies, their traditions, their marketing and management. Now my business trip is coming to the end and I want to share my impressions of English business world with you. First of all English businessmen are well known all over the world for their honesty and decency. If an Englishman gives you his word he will keep it in any case. Besides that, nothing can prevent him from refusing the once taken decision. Of course, there are some exclusions, but they are so rare that nobody should put attention on them.

During the last two weeks my working day was approximately the same. Early in the morning I took a taxi to my hosts' headquarters, which is situated in the City - the business heart of London. First of all I usually asked Mrs. Lapital - my secretary if there were any letters or cables for me. Then she gave me my correspondence and fresh newspapers and I followed to my office-room. There I studied all documents that had come for my name and wrote a short report about previous business day and then faxed it to my native company in Vladivostok. After that I went to Mr. Forsberg's office-room to get tasks for the new day and ask some questions about their company, its history, traditions, clients, and so on. After that I usually did what Mr. Forsberg told. My usual job was meeting with potential clients, discussing their rest plans and offering the services of Mr. Forsberg's company. I usually met with 10 or 12 people a day. They were representatives of different social groups and communicating with them increased my knowledge of England, Englishmen and their psychology greatly. This business trip was a great chance for me and I hope I used this chance fully. Now I know a lot about Western business world, about travel business and this knowledge will of course help my in my future career.

A hobby is something you like to do in your free time. Some people make something, grow plants or collect things. Collecting things is not the only hobby people have. A lot of people do sports in their free time. Some people are fond of traveling or gardening. Different people like doing different things.

My friend is fond of collecting dolls. She has got a very good collection and she is proud of it. This hobby is very popular with girls.

I personally think that home is a small world where one lives according to his/her own rules. It's a place where you feel comfort, warmth and reliability. And I believe that it's not the size of the place where you live that matters, but the way you feel about it. And if your house is not just a building for you but a place that you can call home, it means that you want to stay there as long as possible and it's a place where you always want to return to.

The importance of home is depicted in languages of all the nations: we say "East or West, home is best ", the English say "My home is my castle." Home is a place that awakens the most pleasant feelings and high emotions in soul of every person. Always after a hard day I return home and think "At last I came home". For me there is no place like home.

School is the traditional place for acculturating children into our national life. In the modern age, the role assigned to our schools is to prepare children for the literate public culture. Some students like school, others don’t; but they all study for eleven years and gain knowledge by doing different tasks. For students who are doing well in most subjects and who want to get higher education, school is an attractive place. But those who are not successful at school, and who are always pressed by teachers and their parents, school is boring and uninteresting.

I am a full time student, and work 20+ hours a week so I don't have time to spend running or weight lifting. So I have resorted to doing 100% body weight exercises in my room in the evenings. I even have a pull up bar attached to my bathroom door frame.

Here is my question. When I work out, it is usually for like 15 minutes, but I really push my self to do as much as possible. I go from one exercise to another and don't rest in between. When I am done I am very exhausted...

Is this really bad? I want to lose a little bit of body fat and get a better figure with a little bit of muscle just from body weight workouts. Do I HAVE to spend like an hour to achieve this? Or will my 15 minute extreme killer workout be good enough? I'm too lazy to spend a lot of time on it...

Kyiv is my native city. It's an ancient city.Ancient Kyiv was a large commercial centre of the East Slavs.During the reign of Prince Volodymyr the city expanded greatly. Under the rule of Prince Yaroslav the Wise many churches and cathedrals and monasteries appeared in the city.There are a lot of places of historical importance in Kyiv. Among them there are the Kyivo-Pecherska Lavra, the Golden Gate, the St. Sophia's Cathedral.For those who love Kyiv so dearly as I do, it's very difficult to choose some places of the particular interest.If the day is fine and the sky is cloudless, I'd like to go to the Golden Gate. It is situated in the centre of the city. From the top of the Gates we can admire a splendid view of the city.I also like the St. Sophia's Cathedral. Prince Yaroslav the Wise is buried there.Kyiv has changed greatly recently. There appeared a lot of small caffees, cosy restaurants, different shops and stalls.

So, speaking about weddings, I would like to mention first that I don’t understand people, who are getting married at the age of 17-20, it’s hideous. Cause they don’t realize that they’ll break their lives by divesting themselves of the greatest years. Cause at that age they all are still children and children can only play representing a family but it’s wrong to transform such a game into a reality, cause they are to young to do it. The same I can tell about weddings the reasons of which is pregnancy, such wedlocks exist for a short time as usual. As for me I decided that it would be better to get married when I’ll be 25-27 years old. And only misunderstanding, cruel and unfair control can change my decision, so I can make up my mind and displace that age limit a little below.

After each term in school we had our holidays. It's fun to have holidays, you can do whatever you like, you don't have to get up too early, do your homework or think of troubles which occur very often at school. Most of all I liked summer holidays, they were the longest ones, though, when winter was snowy and and frosty, I enjoyed my winter holidays skating and skiing, sledging and making a snowman or having a fight with snowballs.

I'd like to tell you about my summer holidays I spent in Sochi. It was just three years ago. My parents and me were sitting in the living-room discussing our plans for the summer holidays. My father suggested that we should go to Sochi. On hearing that I jumped up with joy and said it was a wonderful idea. My mother wasn't against the idea either.

I have a very good friend. His (her) name is ... Friends are very important in our life. I think one cannot live without friends. The most important thing for being good friends, to my mind, is to be ready to help one another in any situation, nevertheless how difficult it is, to support one another and to solve all the problems together. And never mind, that the friends may have different interests and hobbies, different likes and dislikes. They say that the friend in need is a friend indeed. I think it is really so.My friend and I always do our best to help one another. We discuss all our troubles and try to find the best decision in any situation. My friend is a very good, kind and clever boy (girl). We often spend our free time together. It is not very easy now, because both of us are very busy — we are going to enter institutes and have a lot of work to do.
