The Pacific Paradise Tour took us to California, on the west coast of the United States, and to the Hawaiian islands in
the Pacific Ocean.
With beautiful countryside, exciting cities and fantastic beaches, this holiday had everything".
The first place we stopped at was San Francisco, in northern California.
This city is famous for its cable cars - and it certainly needs them because San Francisco is extremely hilly and has some
very steep roadsl By the sea, next to the fishing boats, there are the fish restaurants.
Here we enjoyed watching the street actors and musicians as we ate delicious fresh fish. One thing we'll never forget is
the Golden Gate Bridge, which is very big and beautiful.
The next city on the tour was Los Angeles.
This city is very exciting and has some very famous attractions.
The nearby beaches are long and sandy and the mountains outside the city are high and dry.
We visited the beach where they were filming Baywatch.
We also went to Disneyland where we saw E.T. and shook hands with Mickey Mouse.
After that they took us to Hollywood to see the houses of the stars who have made a lot of films - and a lot of money!
The last place we visited in California was San Diego, a city with sun, sand, sea and all kinds of watersports.
We went to the San Diego Zoo which is one of the world's largest zoos.
We also visited Mexico, which is only a short drive away from San Diego.
Finally, we went to Hawaii. It's paradise!
We sat on golden beaches with green palm trees and watched amazing red sunsets.
We also saw colourful fish at Sea
Life Park and went snorkelling in Hanouma Bay.
In the evenings we enjoyed the lively clubs, bars and ice-cream parlours.
Best of all, we ate fantastic Hawaiian food while watching Hawaiian people performing traditional Polynesian dances.
This holiday was fantastic.
So when you have time, get on the first plane to the west coast of The United States and have the time of your life!

Pacific Paradise
Hanouma Bay.

American food is definitely multinational, just like its population. People from other countries when arriving to the USA brought with them their national recipes. So, now all American food is partly Italian, partly Greek, partly Jewish, partly Chinese, partly French, etc. Very often traditional American food is associated with fast food, including hamburgers, French fries, hot dogs, pizzas and some other quick and easy-made dishes. Another American tradition involves salad bars. Many restaurants offer them to their visitors. The main rule of salad bars is to pay one price and eat as much as you want. Such national celebrations as Thanksgiving and Christmas I many families are followed by roast turkey or stuffed duck. Another traditional American food is doughnuts. However, they were brought to the USA by Dutch immigrants in the 19th century. One can find all sorts of doughnuts in American cafes. During the day Americans eat lots of ready-to-cook food. Breakfasts are usually light, with just a plateful of cereal and a cup of fresh-brewed coffee. For lunch some families eat fresh salads, sandwiches or tinned soups, which require simply heating. Dinner is the most nutritious meal. Traditionally families cook pasta or roast beef with rice, serve fresh salads, drink a glass of water, juice or wine and sometimes have a dessert with tea. Some families order a take-away food, such as pizza, sushi, Chinese food, etc.

Travelling by plane is one of the easiest ways to see other countries. I love travelling and being at the airport. This place has a special atmosphere. For me the journey starts once I get there. My parents often take me to other countries and cities with them. We have travelled by different means of transport: by car, by bus, by train and a couple of times by plane. The countries we visited were Spain, Turkey and Egypt. It was an unforgettable experience for me. I’d like to tell a few words about our last flight. We decided to visit one of the most beautiful cities in Turkey – Istanbul. We had to arrive two hours before the departure time. At first, we passed special control at the entrance. Then we took our luggage to the check-in counter. The airport workers checked our tickets, weighed the luggage and labeled it. We didn’t take many clothes with us. My parents prefer travelling light. There was only one small suitcase and one handbag. After that, we went to the passport control counter. The officers checked our passports and put a stamp. Then, we went shopping at duty-free stores. My dad was a bit hungry so we stopped at one cafe to have light sandwiches. We still had some free time to wander around. Half an hour later the speaker announced our flight and we went closer to the gate. Our plane was far from the gate so a special airport bus drove us there. The plane was huge and comfortable and our flight went smooth. We arrived to Istanbul on time. The airport there was amazing. I’d like to fly there again sometimes.

Our country. Our environment. There are many big and small rivers, green forests, high mountains, lakes and seas in Russia. Our Earth is our home. I think people must take care of our Motherland. There are some laws and decisions on this important question. We have state organizations whish pay attention to this problem. The international conventions pay mush attention to the control of population too. There are a lot of industrial enterprises in our country that's why we can't ignore the problem of the protection of our environment. We have got the main aim of the protection. Our environment must be clean. What must we do for it? We have to control atmospheric and water pollution, to study the man's influence on the life of animals, plants and our human life. If we don't use chemicals in a proper way we'll pollute our environment. Our plants and factories put their waste materials into water and atmosphere and pollute the environment. There are many kinds of transport in our big cities, that is why we must pay attention to the protection of our nature and the health of the people. Radiation. Now it has become one of the main problems. It is not good for health of people died from radiation some years ago in Chernobyl. It was a tragedy. The other problem is an earthquakes in America. Our scientist try to forecast earthquakes, then we can protect ourselves from them. The people all over the world do everything to protect their nature, to make their country riches, do make their life happier.

Modern life is impossible without travelling. Thousands of people travel every day either on business or for pleasure. They can travel by air, by rail, by sea or by road.
Of course, travelling by air is the fastest and the most convenient way, but it is the most expensive too. Travelling by train is slower than by plane, but it has its advantages. You can see much more interesting places of the country you are travelling through.
Modern trains have very comfortable seats. There are also sleeping cars and dining cars which make even the longest journey enjoyable. Speed, comfort and safety are the main advantages of trains and planes. That is why many people prefer them to all other means.
Travelling by sea is very popular. Large ships and small river boats can visit foreign countries and different places of interest within their own country.
As for me, I prefer travelling by car. I think it's very convenient. You needn't reserve tour tickets. You needn't carry heavy suitcases. You can stop wherever you wish, and spend at any place as much time as you like.
Every year my friend and I go somewhere to the South for holidays. The Black Sea is one of the most wonderful places which attracts holiday-makers all over the world. There are many rest-homes, sanatoriums and tourist camps there.
But it is also possible to rent a room or a furnished house for a couple of weeks there. Sometimes, we can place ourselves in a tent on the sea shore enjoying fresh air and the sun all day long.
As a rule, I make new friends there. In the day-time we play volley-ball, tennis, swim in the warm water of the sea and sunbathe. In the evening.
I like to sit on the beach watching the sea and enjoying the sunset. I'm fond of mountaineering. So I do a lot of climbing together with my friends. Time passes quickly and soon we have to make our way back. We return home sunburnt and full of impressions.

The climate in Great Britain is generally mild and temperate due to the influence of the Gulf Stream. The south-western winds carry the warmth and moisture into Britain. The climate in Britain is usually described as cool, temperate and humid.
British people say: "Other countries have a climate, in England we have weather."
The weather in Britain changes very quickly. One day may be fine and the next day may be wet. The morning may be warm and the evening may be cool. Therefore it is natural for the people to use the comparison "as changeable as the weather" of a person who often changes his mood or opinion about something. The weather is the favourite topic of conversation in Britain. When two Englishmen are introduced to each other, if they can't think of any thing else to talk about, they talk about weather. When two people meet in the street they will often say something about weather as they pass, just to show their friendliness.
Every daily paper publishes a weather forecast. Both the radio and television give the weather forecast several times each day.
The English also say that they have three variants of weather: when it rains in the morning, when it rains in the afternoon or when in rains all day long. Sometimes it rains so heavily that they say "It's raining cats and dogs".
Rainfall is more or less even throughout the year. In the mountains there is heavier rainfall then in the plains of the south and east. The driest period is from March to June and the wettest months are from October to January. The average range of temperature (from winter to summer) is from 15 to 23 degrees above zero. During a normal summer the temperature sometimes rises above 30 degrees in the south. Winter temperatures below 10 degrees are rare. It seldom snows heavily in winter, the frost is rare. January and February are usually the coldest months, July and August the warmest. Still the wind may bring winter cold in spring or summer days. Sometimes it brings the whirlwinds or hurricanes. Droughts are rare.
So, we may say that the British climate has three main features: it is mild, humid and changeable. That means that it is never too hot or too cold. Winters are extremely mild. Snow may come but it melts quickly. In winter the cold is humid cold, not the dry one.
This humid and mild climate is good for plants. The trees and flowers begin to blossom early in spring.
In the British homes there has been no central heating up till recently. The fireplaces are often used. but the coal is not used as it's very expensive. Britain has no good coal now and imports it itself. Many schools and universities have no central heating either, and the floors there are made of stone. The British bedroom is especially cold, sometimes electric blankets or hotwater bottles are used.

Living in detached house has disadvantages and advantages. In my opinion the most important advantage is independence. When you live in detached house you don’t need to worry about what your neighbours will tell when you throw a party with loud music. On the other hand this independence can be disadvantage. When you leave for holiday, nobody takes care about your house. You can easily be robbed, because everyone can see that there in nobody at home.
Second advantage is a lot of place to live. In detached house usually you have more space than in block of flats. You have your own garden, you always have place to park your car, but you have to do everything yourself. You have to mow the lawn, to undercut trees, to fix everything in your home by your own. Of course you can hire someone who does these thinks but for some people it is serious disadvantage.

How important is it for you to be attractive? Although everyone wants to be good looking, do you think beautiful people are always happy? I don’t think so. For example, it must be a problem to be a very beautiful woman, because some men may be more interested in looking at this woman than talking to her. They think of her like a picture rather than a person. Some people think that very pretty women and handsome men are stupid, as a rule. These people are thought to be only interested in their appearance. Some people believe that only unattractive people can be clever. But surely no one wants to be really ugly; and no one wants to be plain either — that is to have rather simple face that can be easily forgotten. Being attractive can help you find happiness, but it does not always make you happy. So maybe the best thing is not to worry about your appearance. It is more important to try to be an interesting personality. Because interesting people are always attractive.

American homes are some of the biggest and best in the world. Many have a garage for one or two cars, a big modern kitchen, a living room, and a playroom for the children.
Upstairs there are two bathrooms and three or four bedrooms. Young Johnny sleeps in one room. His sister, Sally, has another one. Their parents sleep in the third bedroom. There is another room for visitors.
Some families have two homes. They have one house or apartment in the city or suburbs. They live and work there. But they have another home near the sea or in the mountains. They go to their second home on weekends and for vacations. Seventy percent of Americans buy the house they live in. They are lucky. But thirty percent cannot buy a house or an apartment. Some of them rent their home from a landlord. Some landlords are good, but some are not. Windows may break, or roofs get old, and the landlord does not always help. The poorest people live in public housing apartments. These apartments are not like rich American homes. People do not like to live in public housing projects. They are afraid of thieves and drug sellers.

What is a brand? In my opinion, it's not only a trademark of some company, but the name of certain product we use every day. For example, speaking about coffee most of us say Nescafe, but not 'coffee'. This short example also illustrates the main aim of producers - to create brand popularity, so that most of people would recognize the product among the competitors products. Advertising campaigns are launched to enhance brand awareness, that's why sometimes brand costs more than the whole company, for example one day of advertising at Yandex website (what is called by Yandex sales managers as 'increasing brand popularity') costs $20,000. Recognition of a brand or, how it's called, brand awareness helps people to find the necessary size, quantity, taste, especially, when they are in another country and don't know the local products' specifications. What qualities should brand name possess?

When we cook, we boil, roast, fry or stew our food. We boil eggs, meat, chicken, fish, milk, water and vegetables. We fry eggs, fish and vegetables. We stew fish, meat, vegetables or fruit. We roast meat or chicken. We put salt, sugar, pepper, vinegar and mustard into our food to make it salted, sweet, sour or simply tasty. Our food may taste good or bad or it may be tasteless.
The usual meals in England are breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner or, in simpler houses, breakfast, dinner, tea and supper.
For breakfast English people mostly have porridge or corn-flakes with milk or cream and sugar, bacon and eggs, marmalade with buttered toast and tea or coffee. For a change they can have a boiled egg, cold ham, or fish.

English people like animals very much. Pets: dogs, cats, horses, ducks, canaries, chickens and other friends of men have a much better life in Britain, than anywhere else. In Britain they have special dog shops, selling food, clothes and other things for dogs. There are dog hair-dressing saloons and dog cemetries. The English arrange dogs' shows and organize dogs' supper parties for winners of dogs' competitions. They do all they can to make animals feel well in their home and outside their homes too. There were photographs in English newspapres of a mother duck and her young family, crossing slowly the road from Hyde Park to Kensington Garden.

Urban legends are popular stories alleged to be true and transmitted from person to person by oral or written communication. People didn't begin talking about "urban legends" until the 1930s and 1940s, but they have existed in some form for thousands of years. Urban legends are simply the modern version of traditional folklore, legends and myths. In most cultures of the world, they have always existed alongside, or in place of, recorded history. Where history is obsessed with accurately writing down the details of events, traditional folklore and legends are characterized by the "oral tradition," the passing of stories by word of mouth.
In old Europe, the deep forests was a mysterious place to people, and there were indeed creatures that might attack you there (the crone Baba Yaga in the ancient slavic folklor, for instance). We do have a lot of fears in common with our ancestors, of course. As is clear in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves," the fear of food contamination has been around for quite a while.

Whiskey (from the Gaelic for "water of life"), spirituous liquor distilled from a fermented mash of grains, usually rye, barley, oats, wheat, or corn. Inferior whiskeys are made from potatoes, beets, and other roots.
The standard whiskeys of the world are Scotch (commonly spelled whisky ), Irish, American, and Canadian. The Scotch Highland whisky (made in pot stills) and that of the Lowlands (patent stills) differ in the percentage of barley used, quality of the water, quantity of peat employed in curing the malt, manner of distilling, and kind of casks in which they are matured. Irish whiskey resembles Scotch, but no peat is used in the curing, and instead of the dry, somewhat smoky flavor of Scotch, it has a full, sweet taste.

In 1937 the McDonnald brothers, Dick and Mark, opened little restaurant in California. They served hot dogs and milk shakes. In 1945 they have 20 waiters. All the teenagers in town ate hamburgers there. When the 1948 year came they got paper boxes and bags for the hamburgers. They put the price down from 30 to 15 cents. There were no more waiters — it was self-service. So it was cheaper and faster.
In 1960s the McDonald's company opened hundreds of McDonald's restaurants all over the States. In 1971 they opened restaurants in Japan, Germany and Australia.
Now the McDonald's company opens a new restaurant every 8 hours. There are more than 14,000 restaurants in over 70 countries. The Coca-Cola story began in Atlanta in 1886. John Pemberton invented a new drink. Two of the ingredients were the South American coca leaf and the African cola nut. Pemberton couldn't think of a good name for the drink. Finally, Dr. Pemberton's partner Frank Robinson suggested the name Coca-Cola. Thirty years later the famous Coca-Cola bottle design first appeared.

Money doesn’t buy happiness but it helps.
Money has become one of the main things in our modern life. Some people live their lives to earn money. They work hard, trying to earn as much money as they can. Some of them become crazy about it and lose their dignity hunting money. They don’t appreciate such important things as family, friendship, love and other feelings. Such people become greedy, they spend their lives in loneliness.
I don’t deny that money influences our life a lot. As W.S. Maugham said “ Money is like the sixth feeling without which you cannot make a complete use of the other five.” I quite agree. A person can’t be happy if he has no money to satisfy his natural needs. But I think that money should have a limit. A person shouldn’t have too much money. It begins destroying him and becomes his curse.

Personal computers are now commonplace in most homes throughout the world, and are relied on heavily by both individuals and businesses. The invention of the computer is relatively new, emerging into our lives relatively late in the 20th century.
The computer has been another life-transforming invention. British mathematician Charles Babbage designed a form of computer in the mid-1830s, but it was not until more than a century later that theory was put into practice. Now, a whole generation has grown up with calculators, windows, icons, computer games and word processors, and the Internet and e-mail have transformed communication and information.

It is very strange but i have never think that one day I will go to India.
As I work in international call center, it was like exchange between countires for some time.
The first day was really difficult for me, because i was shocked: you will find the Indian roads very dirty with a lot of dust, besides, that there are many beggars outside, which will disturb you a lot. When the first day was over i began thinking about foreigners, which live in India for a long time. BUT it was my big mistake, because i found many beautiful and interesting places here to see and adore, besides of that always you will find fresh fruits and vegetables outside with the best price. For us,foreigners, it is really great to stay here, especially, for pure vegetarian people.

Verrazano, an Italian about whom little is known, sailed into New York Harbour in 1524 and named it Angouleme. He described it as 'a very agreeable situation located within two small hills in the midst of which flowed a great river.' Though Verrazano is by no means considered to be a great explorer, his name will probably remain immortal, for on November 21st, 1964, the longest suspension bridge in the world was named after him.The Verrazano Bridge, which was designed by Othmar Ammann, joins Brooklyn to Staten Island. It has a span of 4,260 feet. The bridge is so long that the shape of the earth had to be taken into account by its designer.
