When a person is small, he of course goes to school there people get knowledge which is useful for nowadays world. Some pupils claim, that homework which teaches give us is necessary while other argue that teachers give us lots of homework and we have no time to do it properly. Let`s look upon this problem objectively. To begin with, teachers have to give students a lot of homework because there is a difference between the levels of school education and university entrance exams. They want the pupils to pass the university entrance exams well, so they have to catch up with the required knowledge. Moreover, students should do homework because following this way they revise the material and practice it at the same time. In addition, if you understand the home tasks you will be able to do the same tasks at school and get excellent mark.
The American system of school education differs from the systems in other countries. There are state public schools, private elementary schools and private secondary schools. Public schools are free and private schools are fee-paying. Each state has its own system of public schools. Elementary education begins at the age of six or seven, when a child goes to the first grade (form). At the age of sixteen schoolchildren leave the elementary school and may continue their education at one of the secondary schools or high schools, as they call them.
The school system of Canada is very much like the one in the USA, but there are certain differences. Education in Canada is general and compulsory for children from 6 to 16 years old, and in some provinces — to 14. It is within the competence of the local authorities, and therefore it may differ from province to province. For example, Newfoundland has an 11-grade system. Some other provinces have 12-grade systems, and Ontario has even a 13-grade system. Grades 1—6 are usually elementary schools, and grades 7—12 are secondary schools. In some provinces there is a kindergarten year before the first grade. Elementary education is general and basic, but in the junior high school years the students can select some courses themselves.
Nowadays there are few literature classes in senior classes of secondary school. Some people claim that literature plays an important role in the upbringing and development of a person while others argue that present-day students don’t need classical literature. Let`s look upon this problem objectively.
There are some advantages in literature lessons. To begin with, literature broadens children`s horizons. By reading a lot, they become all-round, well-educated persons who are interesting to talk to. Moreover, at literature lessons pupils get information about Russian and foreign writers and poets, learn about their culture and history of Russia and other countries. Another point to be made is that literature lessons improve memory and exercise brain power.
Learning a foreign language is not an easy thing. It is a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and efforts. Nowadays it is especially important to know foreign languages. Some people learn languages because they need them for their work, others travel abroad, for the third studying languages is a hobby. Everyone, who knows foreign languages can speak to people from other countries, read foreign writers in the original, which makes your outlook wider. It is not surprising that many intellectuals and well-educated people are polyglots. I study English. Nowadays English has become the world’s most important language in politics, science, trade and cultural relations.
